I have not updated this site in many months. To be honest, I had no reason to start it in the first place. My wedding photography is doing what it does on my Squarespace page. Any “recreational” photos were posted on either one of two Instagram accounts. I was even thinking of getting serious about trying to resurrect a half-dead Facebook page and using it to support my wedding business. All of this made a separate photo site superfluous at best.

Funny thing about Instagram and Facebook, though: They’re useless. Worse than useless. While I’ve heard that there are photographers who’ve “cracked the algorithm” and figured out how to extract profit from their Meta-products, no social media was ever worth a damn in generating leads or clients. Worse, I found myself using them for the following:

  • Posting good photos that, unfortunately, few people saw.
  • Posting not-good photos that, fortunately, few people saw.
  • Pontificating.
  • Scrolling time-sucking detritus: posts and “shorts” about politics, history, and world affairs.
  • Insulting Trump supporters in the comments sections of posts and “shorts” about politics, history, and world affairs.
  • Deleting those comments after worrying that they’d lead to the loss of my job or, in one or two instances, my life.
  • Rants.
  • Obessing.
  • Showing off.*

*This is extra pathetic, since my 400+ followers (a pathetically low number for a feed intended to be profitable) generally meant fewer than ten likes from the same crew, i.e., a couple of former coworkers and my aunts. (And if any of you have found me here, welcome, and apologies in advance.)**

**As much as I deleted Instagram and Facebook to combat my own irritating and incessant need for attention, I must admit that the idea of no one finding me here—regardless of whether that turns out to actually be true—is liberating, though lonely.

Anyway, sometime after the beginning of the year, I deleted both Instagram accounts and any abortive effort associated with Facebook. Without any social media the past couple of months have been strangely calm and productive. Still, I miss having anyplace to post photographs, and with a trip to London coming up, I’d hate for the photos I take there or anywhere else to sit idle on my phone. So here are some photos I’ve taken since my last post in July.
